I really need this boost, David. And I just gave $100 to Wisconsin that, as a senior partially reliant on Social Security (after a life of human service jobs) I couldn't well afford. The thought that you are matching my 'donation to save the nation of my heart' braces me up. A million thanks. And btw I lived in NC for years and gerrymandering is the most undemocratic thing outside of lining up Dems in front of a firing squad that you can imagine, and damn hard to get rid of, even when it's ruled for by the state courts. Because the Repugnicans manage to undo even that. They are becoming a minority in NC and playing dirty to maintain power and get rid of the opposition.
Leigh, thank you for your comment. It aligns with me, my life, and my point of view. I am also a senior citizen partially reliant on Social Security after a career of human service work...nurse. David motivated me, as well, to donate $100. We are in this together!
What do you think about supporting special elections in Florida for the House seats vacated by Goetz and Waltz? Wisconsin more important at this point?
I think the special elections will be much much harder to win, and less likely to be seen as a referendum on Musk. If we win them, great! But I’d donate to WI over the specials.
Yikes! Meant that we’re trying to hold the seat but probably should have double checked that one. Will see if I can fix it. Thanks for letting me know!
Why the heck is Elon messing with elections that he has no business involved in?! He’s going to do this in this in other states too. He will keep dumping me met in to other campaigns. Isn’t there some sort of law that will stop him?
There was, but Citizens United (and a few follow up decisions) overturned it. Just in case you weren't mad enough, Justice Kennedy wrote, in the Citizens United opinion, that his ruling wouldn't even lead to "the appearance of corruption." I'm gonna say he got that one wrong.
Two things: 1 - There are other elections before November - 2 FL House seats election on April 1st and another in NY sometime this spring. 2 - The other effective action people can take is join a postcard writing campaign - costs very little of your money and not a lot of time and it has been proven that postcards work!!
I’m all for doing everything! That said, a few people have asked about the special House elections and my view is that they’re not in swing states and less publicly associated with Musk so will have less of a national impact. (Unless Dems win the Florida ones which are serious long shots.) So I don’t think there’s a wrong answer but I do think focusing on WI is the most right answer.
There are a handful of congressional specials - plus any that might come up if a rep retires or passes away - between now and November. That said, this will likely be the only election that is a) statewide b) in a purple state c) seen as a referendum on Musk. (For example, I think we have a shot in Elise Stefanik's district, but largely because of tariffs.) All elections are worth participating in, but the reasons above are why I think WI is uniquely important and worth donating to if you're prioritizing.
Elon is most definitely on the ballot in Wisconsin on April 1. Sorry I could only afford to do 50 bucks. I then went on FB and posted a link to this article telling anybody in Wisconsin to share it. I have a total of 5 people who respond to all my shit. But I have 850 'friends'. Most of them from LA (a different lifetime). We will see where this goes.
Where is the list of things democrats will do if elected? Considering the list of powers that needs to stripped away from Presidents and the list of problems the Republican have failed to address or have agreed to make worse. Most Americans agree on of the Democrat's solutions. Elections are seldom won by simply opposing a candidate.
Elon’s money is one thing. His stated ability to hack voting machines is another thing. If republicans win big (your first tine) I hope to heaven this time they do a recount!
Thank you for your generous offer and shedding light on Wisconsin and Elon. I donated.
Why is there no attention being paid to the fact that if Democrats win the 3 elections for Gaetz, Waltz and Stefanik then Democrats would have the majority in the House by one vote?? Am I missing something here? I see nothing on MSNBC. (sent them a letter too) This should be yelled from the rooftops. There have to be enough people disgusted with what's happening, even Republicans having buyer's remorse. And if Democrats are aware of the result they would be swarming to the polls! This would be like catching a life preserver in these dark times.
There’s a question among my group of activists about the value of writing legislators over calling. Word has been going around that the phones overwhelmed and largely ignored. Thoughts/advice on this?
My first thought is that doing something is always better than doing nothing while trying to figure out the best thing. That said, I would go calls first - legislators track calls, and when the lines are busy they note that as well. Handrwitten notes are also good but take a long time to process. Emails are very close to meaningless, because lawmakers know they don't take much commitment to write.

You wrote that the n cut election after Wisconsin’s is not until November. That is incorrect. Two congressional

We have one of those in my district (RIP Sylvester Turner), but I believe Gov HotWheels has to call for the election. I'm not holding my breath,

David Litt…am I correct about Dems possibility to have majority in House? I’m really trying to find an answer to this. Pls respond
I’m so sick of Elon who’s running around like Satan! Stealing Killing and Destroying!! He Must Go!!!

From across the lake in Michigan, working right now on my 200 postcards to get out the vote in WI.
